London, 16th August 2022: WTA Partners is delighted to announce the acquisition of their client Graffica, a provider of simulation products, software systems and services for the rail and air sector, by Sopra Steria UK, the British division of the leading European, consulting, digital services and software development firm.

The deal supports the strategic development of Sopra Steria UK’s transport sector business, and with Graffica brings an in-depth knowledge and understanding of proven simulation & modelling capabilities, and transport industry expertise.

Graffica has a staff of 30 who are highly specialised in researching, prototyping and validating future systems and concepts. These simulation services will complement Sopra Steria’s existing digital twin capability and enable the business to deliver operational systems that will enhance the safety and efficiency of the UK transport network.

John Neilson, CEO of Sopra Steria UK, said:

“The acquisition of Graffica marks a significant milestone in our commitment to delivering the best-in-class solutions to the UK transport network. Together, we bring to market the knowledge, expertise and advance technology that will transform the way future transport networks are designed and delivered. A safer, more efficient, and customer-friendly transport system. We know it works because our data-led simulation has already stressed test it before it comes to life.”

Mike Ballone, Graffica Director commented:

“We’re delighted to announce that Graffica has become part of the Sopra Steria UK family. Graffica sensed a strong affinity with Sopra Steria, sharing many common values and a passion for working to make the world a better place.”

“When we made the decision to find a buyer for Graffica, it was important for us to select the right advisors. WTA Partners’ specific knowledge and understanding of our industry was clear and their approach to the process gave us confidence that we’d find the best strategic home for the business.”

“Working with WTA, they guided us with their experience and helped us through the complexities of the project at each stage.  It has been a pleasure working with them and I would not hesitate in recommending their services to anyone seeking to buy or sell a business in the IT sector.”

Alan Butterworth, WTA Partner added:

“I am very glad that we have been able to successfully advise Graffica in finding a strategic acquirer who can leverage their industry knowledge and provide an enhanced platform for the onward development of intelligent transport solutions.”

“The market is seeking ever more innovative ways to deliver operational efficiencies with inherently fixed transport infrastructure. Graffica’s capabilities to deliver ‘what if scenario’ planning and digital transformation, alongside the strengths of the Sopra group, will provide increased opportunities to continue to grow across the air, rail and infrastructure markets.”

“We wish the team congratulations and all the best for the future.”
